You and I

Started in 1996. Developed more of lyrics and chords in 97. Looking back on a love that failed to come to full bloom, song completed and recorded in 2002.
There were times I remember of you dancing around acting like a fool.
I wasn't sure what I could do to calm you down, wondering what the hell to do. And the TV flickers there on the wall, still not sure how we got here at all.
Driving in my car here all alone, it's such a sunny day. And there's country music on my radio, seems so strange to say, but the words I hear make me think of you. Not so sure if I can see it through and I ask where did we go wrong, heart's beatin' there and it's beatin' so strong.
Things are going better when I'm near, but that's not always possible.
You say you love when I whisper in your ear on the telephone. So I call you on the telephone, but you always act so damn cold and you wonder why I run scared, wonder how I even cared.
I only think about the good times now that their gone. We always think about the bad times when things are going strong. I can see you drinking a margarita, sunshine in your smile. We'd sit there laughing, losing touch with time. Yea, we'd just sit there, gazing into each other's eyes. You and I'd just sit there grinnin' never asking why, yea Lord, we's just sit there, baby, baby you and I...
